Product Overview
The Medisorb Carbon Dioxide Absorbent, Medisorb Twinpack, W-V comes as a part of the canister system in the Breathing Circuit Gas (BCG) of an anesthesia delivery system. During the functioning of the system, the gases exhaled from the patient are passed through an absorber canister. It is used to absorb the CO₂ in the exhaled gases. It is filled with loose absorbent granules such that a chemical reaction takes place between CO₂ and the absorbent and CO₂ is converted into carbon monoxide. A gradual color change of the absorbent from white to violet in the canister indicates absorption of carbon dioxide due to change in pH levels. The absorbent can be replaced so that the free flow of gases takes place in the circuit and it prevents accumulation of the pooled water in the flow sensor or water in the sensing lines can cause inaccurate alarms. The absorbent consists of the plastic granules which are readily available. They are poured in the canister and a filter is placed over the absorbent.
